ミヤマハンノキ。
北海道、本州中部地方以北、および中部地方の亜高山帯から高山帯下部の岩場、崩壊地に分布する落葉低木樹。
高山、亜高山帯では先駆植物として知られている。
また、落葉した葉の窒素含有量が高いこと、根系に根粒菌が生育していることが知られている。
このことから貧栄養な高山の土壌の富栄養化に貢献していると考えられている。

Alnus maximowiezii is distributed and, growing mainly on disturbed and rocky soil on alpine, subalpine zone of Hokkaido and northern part of Honshu in Japan.
High nitrogen content in litter and formation of Legunious bacteria in the root of A. maximowiezii contributes to increase nitrogen content in non-fertile alpine soil.
